Google Chrome

Google has just launched a new web browser named “Chrome” (free and open source).

They have completely rethought how a browser should be built taking into account todays needs for security and the rising popularity of web applications of which they have many.

Google Chrome

Still in beta and, so far, only available for Windows XP/Vista, it can be downloaded here with youtube tutorials here.

I tried it last night – install was via a small download and then through the web – very smooth.  It is very easy to use and fast.  I’m really impressed by the new features especially the fact that every tab runs on its own process, meaning a problem with one web page will not freeze your entire browser – just end that tab’s process and continue browsing.

For the time being Firefox will still be my main browser but I do think Google is onto a winner here, especially if more IE users switch.
